Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I know when my shingles need replacing?

Some warning signs are curling of the shingles (as they start to shrink), excessive granule loss and cracking along the shingle tabs. The best way to answer this is by calling out a professional to inspect the roof and give you their opinion. Weather All Roofing will gladly inspect your roof and make recommendations for you.

Which type of shingle should I choose?

Shingles come in standard 3-tab styles, architectural style, heavy weight and super heavy weight versions, so there are a number of choices available. Selection usually comes down to your needs for your home or building and so you should select a grade of shingle based on what your future plans are for the property, warranty desired, texture, color and overall comfort level. We can assist in your selection process.

Why has my shingle roof only lasted 12 years , when I read they are rated for much longer?

Manufactures of shingles test their products a number of ways to simulate years of lifespan. But, depending on what part of the country you live in, whether you have adequate ventilation in the roof, weather conditions in your area and different environmental reasons; shingles can sometimes fail or deteriorate sooner than their expected life expectancy. That is especially true in Florida's harsh climate.

I have a brown stain on my ceiling. Is this a roof leak?

Yes, there is a good possibility that stain could be the result of a roof leak. Contact a professional immediately to have the problem looked at and get recommendations before you get further damage inside your home.

Will my insurance company pay for roof leaks or damages?

This is a question you will have to get answered by both reviewing your policy or calling your insurance agent. Our experience has been that most policies cover storm damages from hail, hurricanes, winds, falling debris and lightning strikes, but do not cover workmanship or material defects in the roof. Consult a roofing professional and follow up with your agent if you believe you have a legitimate claim.

Can I switch my roof from shingles to concrete or clay tile?

This will depend on the construction of the roof structure and its ability to handle the weight of the tile roofing. Most tile roofing weighs 4-5 times as much as a shingle roof. An inspection by a roofing professional and a certified structural engineer will help determine the answer to this question. In most cases, additional bracing can be added in your attic space, to strengthen the deck, thereby allowing tile to be installed.

Can a new shingle or metal roof qualify for energy tax credits?

Yes, there are a number of brands of metal roofing that are energy star rated, along with some grades of shingles that could give you as much as $1500 back on your tax return in energy credits. Weather All Roofing can help you with the detail of choices.

My flat roof holds water. What should I do?

A flat or low sloped roof that has excessive ponding water sitting for more than 48hrs could spell trouble for that roof. Water can encourage algae growth and break down a roofing system earlier than its expected life. Installation of a slope can be achieved by replacing the roof or a portion of it and adding a tapered insulation to help drain water off your roof. Our experts know tapered roof systems well.

How long does a typical residential shingle roof take to replace?

Most jobs under 40 sqs (2200 sq ft home) only require 1 to 2 days to remove the old roofing, repair woodwork and install new shingles by our experienced mechanics.

I have rotted wood in my roof. How much will it cost to replace?

This question will be one that will require examination of the wood (if it can be seen and is visible) and a cost estimated on the number of man hours to replace it and the lumber needed. If the rot is non-visible, it will be unknown cost until the roof is removed to see the extent of damage. Most professionals can give you a rough estimate, but until the roof is opened up, they won't know an exact cost until that step in the process. Our staff can help you with a wood budget, so you aren't surprised.

What are the best ways to choose a roofing contractor to do my work?

Roofing Industry professionals suggest that you get copies of both workmans comp. insurance and liability insurance, get several references of past work, verify the contractor's license # with his state authority and meet your roofing company's agent face to face to make sure you understand what you are purchasing and why. A large financial decision should not be made on price alone.

When you first contact Weather All Roofing to request us to look at a property's roof, this is how the bid process works in a residential application.

1. First we will take your information about the property on the phone or you may e-mail us at service@weatherallroofing.com We will need not only the property's address, but your address or the owner's address to forward a copy of the bid to (if you or the owner do not reside there)

2. Next we will contact you to schedule a time to look at the roof and view the property. This will often include access to walk around the building and possible access to look at the ceilings inside or even attic access.

3. After gathering all the measurements, taking photos and notes we will normally take this information to process and bid the job for you. Depending on the products you choose, scope of work and specifications needed..this process can take 1-4 days. The more decisions you have already researched ahead of our visit, the faster we can turn around a bid to you.

4. Finally when we have completed your bid , a Weather All Roofing rep. will contact you arrange a followup visit. This face to face meeting is important, as you can now have the opportunity to hear what we recommend for your home and answer any questions you have. Remember residential roof estimates are absolutely free, so we ask that you please be considerate of our time involved to assemble such a bid and present it to you.

A roofing purchase will probably be the single largest purchase for you home, so it is very important to choose your contractor carefully. Factors such as quality products, details about flashings and how a contractor will set up on your property should all be considered to help smooth the process and leave you with a well thought out job.
